May 2011 - The industry’s new Stone Tile Installation Guide, co-authored by the National Tile Contractor’s Association (NTCA) and the Tile Council of North America (TCNA), is generating a lot of discussion this spring.
Artcraft GMT’s Vice President James Woelfel is Chairman of the NTCA Technical Committee which spearheaded the development of the first-ever guide for stone tile installation.
The 2011 TCNA Handbook for Ceramic, Glass, and Stone Tile Installation is a guide to assist in clarifying and standardizing installation specifications for tile. Each installation recommendation, or method, requires a properly designed, constructed, and prepared substructure using materials and construction techniques that meet nationally recognized material and construction standards. It is the first time industry experts have established specific guidelines for natural stone tile installation, as recommended by the NTCA Technical Committee.

Following his presentation about the new guide at Coverings 2011, Woelfel is serving as a national and local resource to installers, designers and architects who are seeking guidance on the new industry specifications.
“It’s important for designers, architects and contractors to be aware of the industry standards and work with certified installers who understand the correct methods as well as the ramifications of not following industry standards,” explained Woelfel. “At Artcraft GMT, we are continually sought out to rectify the work of others who may have bid a job cheaper, but ultimately cost a contractor more than originally budgeted for due to a job failure.”
Tile and stone installation has been around for centuries, but technology has had a great impact on the methods and materials used in successful installations today. “Industry and consumer demands require tile and stone professionals to be knowledgeable in the advancements being made in our industry,” said Woelfel. “The Stone Tile Installation Guide is the first time standards for natural stone tile have been codified in a comprehensive form to meet the demands of today’s marketplace.”
Woelfel is currently conducting presentations for professional CEU’s for associations and product manufacturers as well as giving informational sessions upon request. For more information, contact: artcraftgmt@gmail.com

Artcraft GMT Wins National Award
Mesa, AZ Company also recognized for excellence in craftsmanship
at premier Coverings 2010 Installation Showcase
May 3, 2010 (Orlando, FL, USA) - Artcraft Granite, Marble and Tile Company is the recipient of a prestigious Tileletter Award for Installation Excellence in a commercial setting. It is the second time Artcraft has been nationally recognized for commercial projects by the National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA). Artcraft is the only contractor in the nation to win installation awards for both commercial and residential projects.
The project for which Artcraft is being recognized this year, is the the Arizona School for the Arts in downtown Phoenix. There, Artcraft installed four bathrooms that the judges noted were as close to perfection as possible.
Criteria for judging these awards are strongly weighted towards installation challenges and obstacles encountered by the contractor and innovative solutions to these challenges and obstacles. Artistry, prestigious location and design are secondary to installation criteria in judging these awards.
"We have a strong team of dedicated professionals who are committed to excellence in our trade, "said
James Woelfel, Vice President of Artcraft GMT. "We have a respect for the expertise that each member
of the team contributes to the overall success of the work we do for our clients. We are thrilled to receive this honor."
